IMPOSTER: artist's statement

"IMPOSTER is a sculptural installation that hangs from the roof of the Ministry of Casual Living. Made from wood discs and steel tubing the sculpture is reflected on the sidewalk in matching coloured discs made from coloured gaffer tape.

The idea came from a quick drawing I made in about 15 seconds and when I looked at it I thought "That's cool," and so I made it and it was cool, though the coolness of it was not appreciated by one senior citizen walking his dog. He thought I should have a permit from the city and told me his thoughts about rogue interventions in public spaces. Everyone else liked it and I had a great time doing it.

I titled the piece IMPOSTER because when I was doing it I felt like I was only pretending to be an artist.

Thank you Ministry of Casual Living for encouraging this work!"
