Libby Oliver's photography series "The Commons" addresses our relationship to our urban environments. The project has involved over 120 people across British Columbia laying face down on different sidewalk surfaces. The figures' identities are indistinguishable and their forms become passive and unsettling in the cemented landscapes. All images have been heavily edited to repaint road markings, remove road blemishes or overlay pristine grass. The manipulated, sanitized landscapes question the "naturalness" of our constructed environments and emphasize our constricted movement through city spaces.
