SOUND + FILM Presents: While We Work > Draft 1

In this two-part audio-visual series, Jeffrey Ellom and Niloo Farahzadeh will be celebrating artistic process as the ultimate artistic outcome. Both artists will be committing themselves to a DIY endeavor for which they have little training. Over the course of four weeks they will capture and display their explorations in two immersive installations.

Draft 1: “The Seprewa” will feature Jeffrey Ellom (@halfpesewa) in his process of hand-crafting a seprewa (a traditional Ghanaian musical instrument). By using only the western tools and techniques available to him, Jeffrey will be engaging in the process of iterating upon and re-contextualizing an instrument that has historically been shaped by migration.

Draft 2: “The Sound” features Niloo Farahzadeh (@loo.ni.tunes) at the producer chair, capturing sounds and visuals from Jeffrey’s woodworking, blending them together in an ambient auditory collage of found sound. By drenching the listener in the music of process, Niloo explores iteration as the aesthetic outcome.

Stop by the Ministry of Casual Living this month during gallery hours and you will catch Jeffrey and Niloo at work. We also hope you’ll join us on June 15th and 29th to enjoy the installations which will celebrate the creative process itself.
