Wanton Everything Bagel
Thu. July 11th 2024 - Sat. July 27th 2024
@ The Ministry of Casual Living Free
Gallery Hours After Opening: Thursdays (5-8PM) + Saturdays (1-4PM). Join us on Thursday July 11 (6-9PM) for the opening of Wanton Everything Bagel–An intersectional feminist art show featuring 40 artists. And pssst! You won’t want to miss the opening. There will be a live performance piece by artist Jayne Walling (7:30PM).
About the name: The word 'wanton' is an old-timey adjective used to shame a woman for interpreted promiscuity. More recently, this word denotes excess, in a negative way. We would like to subvert this definition-Our show recognizes the value in excess (to be loud, to take up space,...). To be wanton or act wantonly is to be deliberately, joyfully unrestrained. And everything bagel? Clearly, it's the best bagel of all. But it’s also a metaphor for inclusion and an acknowledgement of the intersections of identity that differentiate us and connect us to one another.
July Ministry of Casual Living Schedule:
Opening: July 11th (6-9PM).
Gallery Hours (after opening): Thursdays (5-8PM), Saturdays (1-4PM).
Galloping in the Pitch: An Intersectional Feminist Literary Event: July 19th (6-9PM).
Artist Talk & Community Discussion: July 26th (6-9PM).
Address: 750 Fairfield Rd. Wheelchair accessible through East Entrance.
Cost: Free/Optional donation.
